It is with pleasure and enthusiasm that I write a letter of reference for Caroline Millett.  Caroline was of enormous help advising me on the overall “look” of my office when I became dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996.  The office had traditionally had a very masculine flavor – I was the first woman dean.  Caroline has also given my husband and myself invaluable consultation on our country home in Virginia.  Most recently, she was an essential color consultant for the art gallery in our home in Philadelphia. We were completely stuck on what wall color to choose – a critical choice!  Caroline tactfully suggested three possibilities, with one preferred.  She was completely right, it looks terrific.

Caroline is a superb design consultant.  She works with the client as a partner, eliciting the client’s own wants and needs, and incorporating into the scheme objects that are of value to the client.  She is wonderfully nonjudgmental.  But at the same time she is enormously persuasive.  Caroline will work within client’s own budget, large or small.  Her ideas are both practical and exciting – she has a wonderful sense of style and flair.  Personally she is a delight to work with: straightforward, fair, energetic, and effective.  She delivers.

Caroline’s color sense, in particular, is unrivalled (and I speak here as a painter, who has a pretty good color sense herself.)  She creates harmonious environments, epitomized in her own home, which is peaceful and exciting, elegant and comfortable.  Color and texture play an important part in what she does, though I have also seen and admired her work in redesigning room arrangements, lighting and interior architecture.  As a client one does not have to abdicate one’s will and sign on to a design czar!  Caroline is willing to consult on specific projects, including color or consultation on one or more specific spaces.  She is fun to work with.

I have benefited from Caroline Millett’s expert (and practical) advice, and recommend her highly.
